Measuring height of reflection at HF

Sky-wave propagation at HF relies on radio waves refracted, bent downward, back to Earth. Refraction results in a curved path within the ionosphere, but a convenient simplification is to treat the path as a reflection with a sharp apex known as the virtual height.
