Contesting for Science (CfS) - Guidelines

Avoid disrupting an ongoing contest by:

- distorting participation in ways that can create an unfair advantage

- encouraging duplicate or other non-counting contacts

- excessive "cheerleading" or off-the-air coordination or schedules

- follow the HF Contesting Guidelines on the ARRL website

Coordinate with the contest sponsors before a CfS event

- address any questions or issues they might have

- ensure CfS promotion is accurate with respect to contest rules

- avoid conflict with any contest award or scoring program

Offer to support the sponsors if warranted

- data management

- data analysis

- creation of categories or overlays for CfS entries

Inform logging software and scoreboard authors of CfS activity

- send information at least six months in advance for software development

- ask for suggestions as to how to log any additional information

- coordinate automatic spotting or reporting means

Avoid scheduling standalone events in direct conflict with pre-existing contests

- use alternate modes

- recommend alternate frequencies

- survey contest calendars in advance

Ensure that CfS contacts are valid within the contest

- ok to have additional exchange information but inform sponsors

- avoid exchange elements that can be confused with non-CfS contact information

Require CfS participants to submit an entry in the contest

Publish CfS entries within the HamSCI community
